3/4* HOTELS

Raise your travel portrait skills to a new level in a country full of fabulously photogenic people, who don't mind being photographed. A land of chaotic intensity, raw beauty, surreal scenes, and faces that tell a thousand stories. A place where you may not see another tourist in a whole week.

Bangladesh will touch you deep inside with extreme emotions and unforgettable moments. It will steal your heart with the warmth and openness of its people. It will leave you speechless.

Be prepared for some very crowded places, where we ourselves will be a subject of curiosity and cheerful following.

Fully-vaccinated visitors can enter Bangladesh without a Covid test.

Non-vaccinated visitors need a pre-departure PCR test to enter the country (taken within 72 hours before arrival).

Level of Difficulty

Rating 2.png

A fairly easy trip, as we will move around in a private minivan, with just 2 domestic flights.

You just need to be prepared for:

  • A 5-hour minivan drive on bumpy roads (twice)

  • Some very crowded spaces

  • Several boat & motorboat rides (up to 2 hours)

  • Early morning starts to catch the best morning light (sunrise at 7am).

Locations

Bangladesh-1787.jpg

Dhaka

We will navigate Dhaka's infamous traffic jams to photograph its vibrant markets and local communities. We will see other-worldly river port where dozens of hand-paddled shallow boats criss-cross chaotically in between bigger ships. We will take one of these boats across the river to a ship-repair yard. We will also take a day trip out of town to a photogenic old-world pottery village.

Bangladesh-1101.jpg

Chittagong

From extreme crowds to peaceful serenity, Bangladesh's 2nd largest city has a range of terrific places for people photography, where we can play to our heart's content. We will see up close how hard Bangladeshis have to work - often in hazardous conditions - to earn a basic living. And how they still manage to retain dignity, politeness, and smile.

Ship Breaking Yards

What happens to a commercial vessel when it comes to an end of its life? It goes on one last trip to Bangladesh, and is driven full-speed into a beach - where hundreds of workers break it down manually into pieces small enough to be carried by 2-3 people back to the land. You will see 20-30 monster ship carcasses in various stages of decay.

Barisal.jpg

Barisal

Experience river life full of floating markets, in the heart of the Ganges delta, about 5-hour drive from Dhaka. This will be an opportunity to see the rural life of Bangladesh, intrinsically connected with the endless waterways of the country. On our way to Barisal, we will also stop at Satla, the village of water lillies, for an idyllic break from overcrowded Bangladeshi cities.

This Trip Is For...

This trip has been designed primarily for people who have already completed my training "3 Steps To Stunning Portraits", and are already familiar with natural light and composition techniques for people photography.

During this trip, you will learn how to apply these techniques to travel portraits - both candid and posed.

You need a good camera with a telephoto lens up to at least 200mm (full frame) - plus a wider lens when we can get up closer to people.

Personally, I will bring 24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8.

Important To Know

  • Information pack including a packing list and clothing recommendations will be sent 2 months before the trip

  • No vaccinations required

  • Visa: most nationalities get visa on arrival (please bring US$ 55 in cash). Check eligibility: Bangladesh Visa
